About 2 years ago I was admitted to a "movement disorder" Clinic in Melbourne. During my stay there I re-learned a whole heap of skills and important strategies and understandings about how to live a fairly normal life with Parkinson's.(I will discuss this in another post)
There are many things we are told by our clinicians but most of them center around a drug regime that may or may not be working well. To have a doctor/specialist that understands the pharmacological side of things in a very deep way is actually vital. The titration of medication for Parkinson's is the trickiest part of all the navigate.
The sudden "offs" "under-dose" can be avoided just like the writhing, tremor etc that accompany "overdose" Instead of taking tablets that were not agreeing with my Gall Bladder ,I am now taking sinetmet in a liquid form. It is reasonably simple to follow, but it does require a fair amount of discipline from the patient to keep up the hourly doses. (Except overnight when a slow release is used. Other drugs run in the background with this of course and it is also a very handy thing if your carer can understand a bit about the levels of levadopa/carbidopa that you need.
